Sunnexdesk

THE Provincial Agrarian Reform Coordinating Committee (Parccom) in Negros Occidental will conduct an election for the new set of private sectoral representatives on August 29 this year.

The election will be spearheaded by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Provincial Electoral Committee in Negros Occidental led by Officer-In-Charge Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officers II Carlos Padilla and Teresita Mabunay, who also act as the Parccom executive officers.

Parccom was created pursuant to Section 44 of Republic Act 6647 to coordinate and monitor the implementation of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (Carp) in the provincial level.

The provision further mandates the committee to provide information about Presidential Agrarian Reform Council (PARC) guidelines on Carp and on the progress of its implementation.

Parccom Chairman Eduardo Padronia, during the committee meeting at DAR Provincial Office in Bacolod City earlier this month, said eight committee member-representatives will be selected through sectoral election.

Padronia said these representations are from farmers' organizations, agricultural cooperatives, non-government organizations, landowners of principal crop, landowners of other crops, and farmer or farmworkers of principal, of other crops, and of cultural communities.

DAR Municipal Offices are now conducting ongoing community assemblies and selection of representatives based on the pre-qualification criteria.

Posting of the list of nominees in the municipal level is on August 5 to 9 while the submission of the final list of nominees at the provincial office will be on August 16. (PR)
