THE Negros Occidental Language and Information Technology (NOLITC) in Bacolod City, through its annual summit, has recognized anew its alumni-achievers, who are serving as inspirations to the current students.

Vocational School Administrator Ma. Cristina Orbecido, on the sidelines of the 7th NOLITC Summit at the Paglaum Grandstand in Bacolod City Friday, December 7, said they have been recognizing the achievements of its graduates.

For this year, the provincial government-run center has honored 34 awardees, who are excelling in their respective workplaces.

Orbecido said these alumni are now the top agents, team leaders, and supervisors of the different business process outsourcing (BPO) firms in the province.

“This is to give inspiration to the existing students,” he said, adding that it will spur hope among them that there is still an opportunity to excel regardless of educational background or even though they are only graduates of technical-vocational courses.

NOLITC also recognized the best employer and trainer, active industry partners including BPOs and other institutions, and individuals who are considered a wellspring of inspiration.

It also gave the Outstanding Local Government Unit award to the Municipality of Pontevedra mainly for its active support to the center especially in terms of recruitment and endorsement.

The center currently has 120 existing students for various courses, who are mostly belonging to the marginalized sector.

In six years of operation, NOLITC has already catered to almost 5,000 Negrense students and produced about 4,000 graduates.

Orbecido said the center ensures innovations every year to open new doors for many other youths.

She said they continue to work on catering to other sectors by offering new courses to cover more deserving recipients.

“I hope this will serve as inspiration for them to also excel in the future so they will also be an inspiration to our students in the years to come,” Orbecido said, adding that they are driven by the passion of the governor to provide inclusive education for everyone especially the poor.

Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr., who spoke in the summit, congratulated NOLITC's achievers for this year as he expressed confidence that they will achieve more in the future.

Marañon took pride in the center for being the instrument of employment for thousands of Negrenses.

“Congratulations also to the NOLITC people for continuously doing a good work,” the governor said, as he hinted that the center may already transfer to a better area in Talisay City next year.

WHERE’S THE WATER? Water is sparse at the Jaclupan wellfield in Talisay City in this photo provided by the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) on Friday, April 26, 2024. Completed in 1998, MCWD’s Jaclupan facility, officially known as the Mananga Phase I Project, catches, impounds and pumps out around 30,000 cubic meters of water per day under normal circumstances. However, on Friday, MCWD spokesperson Minerva Gerodias said the facility’s daily production had plummeted to 8,000 cubic meters per day, or just about a quarter of its normal capacity, as Cebu grapples with the effects of the drought caused by the El Niño phenomenon, which is expected to persist until the end of May. The facility supplies water to consumers in Talisay City and Cebu City. /
