THE Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) of Negros Occidental has provided livelihood development intervention to members of Calumanggan-Yusay Farmer Association (Cayea) in Barangay Calumanggan, Bago City Wednesday, August 4.

At least 40 recipients, who are also beneficiaries of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), attended the seminar on poultry and livestock production.

They were also oriented on the province's campaign against African Swine Fever (ASF) conducted by PVO District IV Field Unit head Dr. Modesto Joseph Cañonero III.

Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena said the livelihood development intervention provided by the PVO was in cooperation with Bago City Veterinary Office and the DAR.

"It will be able to encourage farmers to explore additional livelihood [opportunities] and strengthen the livestock industry of the province," he added.

The PVO, meanwhile, in collaboration with Silay City Veterinarian Office conducted swine dispersal monitoring, as well as animal health and disease surveillance in Barangays Rizal, E. Lopez and Kapitan Ramon in the city.

Decena said they are giving emphasis mainly on animal productivity and breeding efficiency.

"Various extension services and livelihood development interventions conducted by PVO is aimed at boosting the animal genetic improvement program of the province," he added.
