Color-coded buses to end colorum issue

Sunnexdesk

MANILA -- The Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) is mulling color coding to weed out buses operating out of their franchise area.

DOTC Secretary Jose de Jesus told senators Tuesday that his agency may require all buses plying a certain route painted a uniform color.

He said the most common violation of transportation franchises is operating out-of-line, or along routes that buses are not authorized to ply.

Painting all buses with permits to operate on Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue in Manila the same color will make it easier to spot colorum buses, he said.

“Anyway, these buses have to be repainted every two years," he said.

The DOTC is also looking into issuing electronic tags to buses to allow Land Transportation Office (LTO) officers to recognize colorum buses.
