MANILA –Filipino slugger Drian “Gintong Kamao” Francisco will join the world stage of professional boxers as he faces Thai Duanpetch Kokietgym for the World Boxing Association (WBA) interim super flyweight title.

“Drian will see action in his first fight abroad on November 30, and we believe that he has a good chance of prevailing,” said promoter Elmer Arunan.

He added that his ward is facing a tough challenge ahead with Kokietgym, holding an impressive record of 52 wins (21 via knockouts), one loss and a draw.

Arunan, who is president of the Saved by the Bell Promotions, said Francisco, who is unbeaten in 19 matches (15 by knockout, 1 draw), has been training hard to cop the title left by Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire Jr.

“Kokietgym may have the experience but we believe that our boy has the style and ring smarts to beat him,” he said.

Francisco, whose fighting style mimics that of former two division world champion Luisito Espinosa, defeated Latin champion Ricardo “El Matimatico” Nunez last April for the World Boxing Association (WBA) super flyweight title eliminator. (Virgil Lopez/Sunnex)
