AS THE 14-day Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) took effect on March 30 in the City of Bacolod up to April 14, the City Government of Bacolod started the distribution of 40,000 multicolored food packs through the 61 barangays, which were intended for the indigent residents of the city.

These were allocated to the needy Bacolodnons who were economically challenged and were left helpless in these times of the global health crisis caused by the coronavirus disease.

This is in line with the Emergency Food Assistance Program wherein Mayor Evelio R. Leonardia, Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran and members of the City Council have approved P31 million to smooth out their response to this overwhelming health emergency especially in providing food assistance to the people who rely on their temporary sustenance from the city.

This will benefit the poorest of the poor in the city.

City personnel and other volunteers assisted in packing rice, canned goods, and noodles filled up in multicolored reusable grocery bags.

Leonardia and the city officials made sure that these food packs will get into the homes of Bacolodnons within the ECQ period as this can comfort and stave off the threat of momentary starvation.

Leonardia still appealed to the people to stay at home as the distribution of these food packs will be made in a manner that will conform to the need for social distancing, which is a considerable hindrance to the spread of the virus to another possible host.
