NEGROS Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said that the provincial government will hold the five-day 15th Negros Organic Festival beginning today, November 23, at the Provincial Capitol Grounds in Bacolod City.

"This week, we will again hold Negros Organic Festival. We have not had this for two years. This will give recognition for our organic farmers," Lacson said.

Organic products in the province will again be showcased during the festival anchored on the theme “Organic Agriculture Towards Food Safety and Brighter Market Opportunity.”

The opening program today will be led by Lacson and Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer while Bacolod City Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez will give his message of support.

Director Bernadette San Juan of the National Organic Agriculture Program is also expected to arrive during the festival.

Aside from palay and corn, sugarcane, coconut, banana, banana saba, and cassava are the top five other organic crops that are being produced in the province based on the volume of production.*
