Sunnexdesk

SIX persons were injured after a carousel went off the rail track in a carnival fair during the Pintaflores Festival in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, Wednesday night, November 7.

Superintendent D'Artagnan Katalbas Jr. said the victims were riding the carousel when it suddenly derailed while nearing to a stop.

Some of the victims fell to the ground and sustained minor bruises and scratches.

The incident prompted Mayor Gerardo Valmayor Jr. to order the stoppage of the carnival operation for an immediate investigation.

The following day, a meeting was held with the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, which initially responded to the scene, police, local chief executive, and other concerned agencies to determine the cause of the incident.

Katalbas said they also went to the site for an inspection.

He said they found out in their investigation that the carousel went off because some of the riders were probably "overweight."

Katalbas said the problem has already been addressed and the owner of the carnival also coordinated with them. (GYM)
