COLONEL Benidect Arevalo, commander of the 303rd Brigade of the Philippine Army based in Barangay Minoyan, Murcia revealed that some of the mayors in Negros Oriental want to declare the province under Martial Law to end violence and make their province peaceful.

"Some of the mayors were just quite while some wants martial law for peace to reign in their province," Arevalo revealed.

Arevalo met with Negros Oriental First District Rep. Jocelyn Limkaichong and some mayors in the province and discussed the peace and order situation in the province during the weekend.

Arevalo said that as of press time, he has not received any orders and that he was not asked yet of recommendations pertaining to the series of killings in Negros Oriental.

Arevalo said that the local officials said that whatever is the move of the government which is good for their place, they will support.

"They welcome any solutions that government want to offer in that area to ensure that they will be safe. During our discussions, I said that as far as I'm concerned I just heard it in media. I have not received direct orders from my superiors and commanders if we prepare or plan or make recommendations for whatever purpose that is needed in the higher headquarters. So as far as I'm concerned I just heard it from media," Arevalo added.

Arevalo also assured Limkaichong and the city/municipal heads that the government forces are on top of the situation. He further encouraged the support and cooperation of the local chief executives.

“With or without martial law, the senseless killings should be stopped now,” Brig. Gen. Arevalo said.
