Bacolod to celebrate national children’s month

THE Bacolod City Council approved a resolution requesting the Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD) to lead the city’s observance of the National Children’s Month this November 2019.

The resolution was authored by Councilor Cindy Rojas, chairperson of the City Council committee on appropriation and finance.

Rojas said the month of November is declared National Children’s Month as stated in Republic Act No. 10661 to commemorate the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Children by the United Nations General Assembly on November 20, 1980.

“The main objective of the observance of the National Children’s Month is to promote awareness on the health programs and social roles of government agencies in partnership with other sectors and the community in maintaining a healthy citizenry,” she said.

Rojas said the City Health Office is the implementing arm of Bacolod City in ensuring that Bacolodnons are accorded with the benefit of having and responsive healthcare program.

She added that Republic Act 7160 or the Local government Code of 1991 provides that every local government unit shall exercise the powers expressly granted, those necessarily implied therefrom, and those which are essential to the promotion of the general welfare. (MAP)
