Barangay assistant secretary stabbed dead

BADLY wounded and lying lifeless on the road.

That was how Reynaldo Apuhin was found by a resident of Alice Street at Barangay Singcang-Airport in Bacolod City past 2 a.m. yesterday, August 4.

Apuhin, 34, of the barangay’s Purok Sampaguita, a member of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ), sustained stab wounds on his chest, neck and forehead causing his death.

Major Joery Puerto, commander of Police Station 8, said they are looking into different motives in the killing of Apuhin, who works as the barangay’s assistant secretary and clerk.

Puerto said they recovered a slipper near the crime scene and there were signs of struggle since Apuhin was an athletic person.

He said that based on the footage of the surveillance camera, Apuhin was at the barangay hall when two unidentified men passed by.

The victim then chased the men who were wearing jackets with hoods, the police said.

“Possibly, the two men owe him money”, Puerto said, that Apuhin was seen chasing two men with similar description in another surveillance camera footage on August 1.

As of yesterday, the police already have a lead as to the identity of the suspects although the investigation is still ongoing.

On Wednesday evening, before he was killed, Apuhin along with other barangay workers were working overtime for the bloodletting and other activities scheduled the following day.

For his part, Barangay Singcang-Airport Captain Rosinie Distrito said that Apuhin was working at their barangay for almost 10 years now.

“He is a good man and dedicated to his job to serve the people of Barangay Singcang-Airport. He is well known in their purok,” Distrito said.

The Barangay Singcang-Airport Council also provided financial assistance to the family of the victim and they will shoulder the burial expenses.
