A 12-YEAR-OLD boy died on the spot when he was ran over by a wing van truck along the national road of Barangay Jonob-jonob in Escalante City, Negros Occidental at about 8:30 a.m. Thursday, June 2, 2022.

Escalante City Police Station traffic investigator Staff Sergeant Alberto Dela Cruz identified the fatality as Reylan Amacan of the barangay.

Investigation showed that Amacan was crossing the street while carrying bamboos on his shoulders when the van driven by Harim Marquez, 40, of Gagalangin in Tondo, Manila ran over him.

Dela Cruz said that the driver may have failed to apply brake since the road was descending thus, hitting the boy.

He said the truck carrying grocery goods was on its way to the city’s Barangay Balintawak when the accident happened.

Marquez was already released from detention because the reglementary period already lapsed and no charges were filed against him, the investigator added.
