NEGROS Occidental Provincial Administrator Atty. Rayfrando Diaz II said they may tap the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Bacolod to investigate the pranks using mobile phones pretending to be Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson.

“We may refer the matter to the Cyber Crime Department of the NBI,” he said.

Diaz reported that aside from the three previous cases, a lawyer sent him a message verifying if it's really the governor who called the owner of Campuestohan Highland Resort and made a reservation.

"A warning was already given to all the establishments not to believe in any kind of booking personally done by the governor because he never does that," the official said.

He added that “You have to verify with the offices, especially on the staff of the governor and here at the administrator's office.”

Diaz said such scams or pranks happened during election campaign season to put some people in the bad light.

"It's purely a prank this time," he said.

He said that since the suspects are using a mobile phone, the NBI may hire some cyber crime experts.

The same modus has been reported to the Capitol by at least three resort managements last week.

“One who made the reservation used a mobile phone and introduced himself to be the governor,” the provincial administrator also said.
