A POLICEMAN, who shot and injured a man after engaging in a traffic altercation in Barangay Villamonte, Bacolod City, was released from detention after he posted bail on April 21.

Chief Inspector Ritchie Gohee, head of Police Station 4, confirmed on April 23 that Police Officer 1 (PO1) Ely Agonace, 26, of Barangay Vista Alegre, posted a bail of P36,000 for the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban charges against him.

He was released from police custody around 11:30 a.m.

On April 19, a heated argument ensued between Agonace and truck driver Mario Lazaga when the latter almost hit the police officer while riding his motorcycle along the Circumferential Road at Akishola Village in the said barangay.

A brief chase followed that prompted Agonace to fire at the truck, hitting a passenger identified as Edgar Marinog.

Agonace, who is assigned to the Regional Mobile Force Company in Iloilo, was arrested and confiscated from him his government-issue Glock 17 .9mm caliber.

Also recovered from the scene were four bullets and an unfired cartridge of the same firearm.

Gohee said the victim refused to pursue additional charges against the policeman after he signed an affidavit of non-interest.
