 Adrian P. Nemes III

A DRIVER was killed while eight of his passengers including two minors were injured when his tricycle flipped at Barangay Cubay in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental past 5 p.m. Monday, November 14.

La Carlota Police Station Traffic Investigator Staff Sergeant Renoe Gerzon identified the fatality as Freddie Rivera, 63, of Sitio Kaingalan in the city’s Barangay La Granja.

Gerzon said Rivera died of multiple injuries while being treated at the Don Salvador Benedicto Memorial District Hospital.

He said that only one of the eight injured passengers who were brought to the same hospital was referred to another facility in Bacolod City for further treatment while the rest were outpatients.

Gerzon also explained that the tricycle was not overloaded as the number of passengers when the accident happened was still within its capacity.

Investigation showed that the tricycle was heading east of the national highway when Rivera lost control of it causing it to flip.*
