Gullas: Talisay not fielding Sinulog contingent 'final'

TALISAY City Mayor Gerald Anthony "Samsam" Gullas Jr. has no plans of changing his previous decision not to field an official contingent in this year's Sinulog Grand Parade.

This, despite the decision of the Sinulog Foundation Inc. (SFI) and its steering committee to cancel all activities that they plan to hold at the South Road Properties (SRP) on Sinulog Day, January 17, 2021, and to only prerecord the performances of contingents.

"The decision stands that we are not participating. It was a collegial decision where I asked the opinion of numerous sectors within the city," Gullas told SunStar Cebu.

On Wednesday night, January 6, Gullas announced on his official Facebook page his decision to cancel their participation in this year's Sinulog Grand Parade.

Gullas cited the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic as his reason behind the cancellation.

Gullas said that while he had wanted to participate in this year's festival as a way to thank Señor Sto. Niño, he cannot risk the health and safety of his constituents who will be participating as part of the city's contingent. (JKV)
