THE Bacolod City Council approved a resolution enjoining the City Health Office (CHO) and City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) to take the necessary assessment and precaution in light of the suspected presence of coronavirus in Cebu City on January 21.

The resolution, authored by Councilor Cindy Rojas, was approved during the regular session of the City Council Wednesday, January 22.

Rojas, chairperson of the City Council committee on health, said the Department of Health (DOH) announced on January 21, that it is investigating a suspected case of novel coronavirus in Cebu City.

She said the DOH referred to the case as “non-specific pancoronavirus,” which means it could be the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) or any of the 4 other existing coronaviruses that can infect humans.

Rojas noted that Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses ranging from the common cold to more serious infections such as MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV.

Common signs of coronavirus infection include respiratory symptoms, fever, cough, shortness of breath, and breathing difficulties.

“CHO and CDRRMO are Bacolod City’s two lead agencies that are best equipped to address this suspected concern,” Rojas said. (MAP)
