Husband of slain OFW yields

Glazyl Y. Masculino

TWO days after the husband killed his wife, an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW), inside their house at Barangay Bungahin in Isabela, Negros Occidental, he surrendered to the authorities Tuesday.

Senior Inspector Randy Babor, town police chief, said 26-year-old Arnaiz Arevalo appeared at the police station at 9 a.m. September 25, through the efforts of his uncle, who is a village councilman and other relatives.

Babor said Arnaiz hid at the sugarcane plantation for a day and came out the next day when he sought the help of his relatives.

On September 23, Angela Arevalo, 26, who just arrived home from Kuwait, was stabbed to death by Arnaiz after the latter learned that his wife was having an affair.

The incident was triggered by a crime of passion due to jealousy, according to the police.

Babor said the victim had admitted to her husband that she has a boyfriend and she wanted to end her relationship with him.

The victim succumbed to three stab wounds on her chest and hands.

Babor said parricide charges will be filed against Arnaiz.

He said Arnaiz was not supposed to be detained at the police station because the reglementary period already lapsed. However, he decided to stay at the police station because he feared for his safety.

Babor said Arnaiz will be placed under police custody for safekeeping.
