THE first city engineer of La Carlota government in Negros Occidental passed away early Tuesday, January 8, at the Riverside Medical Center in Bacolod City due to cardiac arrest.

Rudolfo Niere, 83, was confined at the hospital's Intensive Care Unit for a month until he died on Tuesday.

Niere was the fourth of the seven children of couple Rufino Niere and Leona Celis Niere.

He has four children with wife Violeta Go Niere.

He served the city of La Carlota for a longer period before they migrated to the United States of America (USA).

Romy Niere, his younger brother, recalled they were once orphans because their parents died early.

“My brother was a prayerful man and he asked God to bless him abundantly because he will also help others in return. He worked hard for the family and God blessed the works of his hands where he was able to donate a school building at the La Carlota City College and built an orphanage, The Heaven of Hope, in Digos, Davao del Sur,” he added.

He continued to work hard where he brought his family and four children to the US.
