Love triangle eyed in shooting of trike driver

INVESTIGATORS of Bacolod City Police Station 7 are looking into the possibility that the shooting incident in Barangay Alijis on June 26 was due to a love triangle.

Captain Elmer Bonilla, commander of Police Station 7, said Monday, June 27, that Kim Ryan Canillo, 31, a tricycle driver and a resident of Sto. Niño in the city’s Barangay Handumanan, was separated from his wife.

However, they were still communicating and always fighting, Bonilla said, adding that Canillo and his wife already found their respective new partners.

A closed-circuit television camera (CCTV) footage showed that on Sunday afternoon, Canillo was walking along Bangga Metal in Alijis-Murcia Road while talking to somebody on his cellular phone.

One of the suspects then approached and fired at him using an unidentified firearm.

Bonilla said the gunman then took the victim's cellular phone and fled along with his companion, who was waiting near the area, on board a motorcycle.

The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the neck and was brought to the Bacolod Adventist Medical Center.

He is now in stable condition.

Bonilla said they have already a person of interest and that they are now conducting a thorough investigation to file the frustrated murder against the gunman and his companion.

He said the gunman was wearing a facemask while the driver of the motorcycle was using a helmet.

It appeared that they already monitored the activity of the victim, the police official said.

Bonilla said that before the incident, the victim was receiving threats.

He refused to reveal further details while the investigation is still ongoing.
