A FAMILY outing turned tragic when a woman and her daughter died after they drowned in a beach resort at Barangay Miranda, Hinigaran, Negros Occidental Monday, October 29.

Jireh Paul Dayrit of the Negros Occidental Provincial Disaster Management Program Division (PDMPD) identified the fatalities as Laizza Sabando, 30, and her daughter Shine, 6, both residents of La Carlota City.

Dayrit said Laizza, who was reportedly under the influence of intoxicating liquor, asked her daughter to go swimming past 12 p.m. However, after a few minutes, they were seen floating.

Rescuers arrived and tried to revive them but they failed.

Dayrit said the victims drowned when the waves went roughly due to the effect of Typhoon Rosita.

Both were declared dead at a hospital. (GYM)
