A MAN admitted the brutal killing of a 10-year-old girl, whose body was hogtied and stuffed in a basin, in Talisay City, Negros Occidental.

The 20-year-old suspect initially denied he killed the victim because he was ashamed to admit the crime.

The man said he asked the victim to throw the spoiled salad to the river but for an unknown reason, he killed the victim when she entered the boarding house, where he served as a caretaker.

He said he was the only one who did the killing, and he denied raping the victim.

On January 4, the victim was found dead inside her uncle’s boarding house in Barangay 14B.

Initial investigation showed the victim was asked to go to a nearby house to get the results of the small town lottery, but she failed to go home that night.

Her family and neighbors looked for her until they went inside the house owned by her uncle, which is a few meters away from her residence.

She was hogtied and her face was covered with plastic when she was found by her family and neighbors under the sink.

Her family did not see her at first because she was covered with a basin.

Police initially arrested the man and his 17-year-old brother in a follow-up operation.

Both of them were allegedly inside the house when the incident happened.

Despite the suspect’s admission, his younger brother will still be part of the investigation and was turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

The man said that he previously used illegal drugs but he was not under the influence of liquor or drugs when he killed the victim.

He was also surprised when he did the crime.

“Wala ko kabalo kon ngano nabuhat ko to (I didn’t know why I did it),” he said.

He asked for forgiveness from the victim’s family.

Meanwhile, the Women and Children Protection Desk of Talisay City Police Station has yet to release the victim’s autopsy to determine the cause of her death and to confirm if there was sexual abuse.
