Teresa D. Ellera

AS MOST people stay at home amid fears of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19), the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) said the criminality in the province has gone down.

The police described the situation as far from the normal situation.

Records shows that so far no theft and hold up incidents happened as 'Akyat Bahay' suspects cannot penetrate into the houses as most of the members of every family are at home.

The number of road accidents has also drastically gone down.

But although crime is currently down, police are still continuing their usual operations such as conducting drug busts as well as arresting wanted individuals.

Police Lt. Colonel Acollador, OIC Operations Division of Police Regional Office – Western Visayas said they are also hoping the current peaceful situation will continue.

PRO-Western Visayas reported the crime rate across the region dropped by 62.31 percent and they believe the ongoing concerns over Covid-19 contributed to the situation.
