Nocppo awaits directive on use of body cams

THE Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) is currently waiting for the directive from the new Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief General Guillermo Eleazar on the use of body cameras.

Nocppo Spokesperson Police Lieutenant Abegael Donasco said the provincial police currently have 192 body cameras, wherein each city police station received 16 each.

An additional number of body cameras for the municipal police station will also arrive soon. They have no idea yet as to how many they will be receiving.

Donasco said the police force in the province will undergo a seminar on how to use body cameras.

At present, the PNP is finalizing its protocols for the use of body cameras in its operations to avoid legal technicalities, especially in prosecuting suspected lawbreakers.

Eleazar said they would have to consult with other government agencies, particularly the Supreme Court, to craft protocols that would be observed by police personnel when using body cameras.
