'Notorious' theft hurt in shooting

AN alleged notorious theft suspect was shot and injured after he attempted to wrest the firearm of a security guard who was trying to arrest him along Lacson Street at Barangay 39 in Bacolod City at about 10 p.m. Tuesday, June 28.

Case investigator Chief Master Sergeant Sherwin Rojas identified the suspect a as John Ray Aguda alias “Baboy,” 20, of Purok Maghilougyon in the city’s Barangay 35.

Rojas said that complainant Ferdinand Teodoro, 58, of East Homes 5 in the city’s Barangay Mansilingan, claimed that the suspect took his small bag containing some personal belongings valued at P12,300.

He said Teodoro then sought the help of security guard Ernesto Mopasa Jr., who is detailed at the nearby house of businessman Jerry Sy.

Instead of surrendering to the guard, Aguda fought back and tried to grab the former’s firearm which resulted to a grapple, Rojas also said,

“While the two were grappling, the firearm fired hitting Aguda on his back," the investigator told Sunstar Bacolod.

Aguda was rushed to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital where he is now recuperating.

Mopasa was taken into police custody but was released yesterday, June 29, as there were no charges filed against him.*
