PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte was enlightened on the issue involving Orophil Shipping International Co. Inc. following an explanation made by the latter’s officials in a meeting at the Malacañang recently.

This was the statement Friday, July 19, by Orophil chairman Lawyer Juan Orola Jr., who is also the administrator of Bacolod City.

The meeting is relative to allegation of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) that their ship has illegally unloaded 641 shipping containers of smuggled goods at the Port of Manila.

Orola and siblings engineer Tomas Orola (president and chief executive officer), Dr. Elizabeth Salabas (executive vice president), Gilrey Torres (operations manager), Joanna Therese Orola and Ana Maye Lagramada (legal coordinators), lawyer Elnora Abaygar (legal counsel), Rodel Parcon (finance consultant), along with Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission chairman Dante Jimenez and BOC commissioner Rey Leonard Guerrero were present at the meeting.

The Orophil officials explained to Duterte their side, claiming that the BOC has falsely and maliciously accused their company of questionable act without documents or basis.

Orola said the President assured them that justice and fairness will prevail on the matter.

“He (Duterte) directed the BOC to conduct a thorough and honest investigation on the issue,” adding that they were urged to help the administration in his anti-corruption campaign.
