THE Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) is validating reports on the alleged drug involvement of a policeman who was injured in a shooting incident at Barangay Rizal in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental Tuesday, September 12.

Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Castil Jr., provincial police director, in a press briefing Wednesday, September 12, at Nocppo headquarters, said he received initial information about the allegation against Senior Police Officer 2 (SPO2) Carlos Alob, 45, since he was assigned at Sipalay City Police Station.

Alob was previously assigned as a drug operative at San Carlos City Police Station before he was assigned in Sipalay City.

Castil said some concerned citizens from Sipalay City informed him through text messages that Alob was reportedly engaging in the illegal activity.

“It prompted me to transfer him to La Castellana Municipal Police Station, but reports are still subject for verification” he added.

On September 11, Alob was shot by two unidentified motorcycle-riding suspects, who were wearing jackets and caps, outside of his residence.

Police recovered from the scene three fired bullets of .45 caliber pistol.

Inspector Lamberto Mirande, deputy city police chief, said the victim sustained four gunshot wounds and was brought to a hospital. He was later transferred to another hospital in Bacolod City.

Mirande said they have yet to determine the motive. The victim cannot identify the gunmen as well, he added.

Meanwhile, Chief Inspector Irma Teoxon, chief of La Castellana Municipal Police Station, said Alob was transferred to the station from Sipalay City effective August 13. He's been absent for two days now.

Teoxon said Alob asked her if he can transfer to San Carlos City Police Station because it is difficult for him to travel every day via motorcycle, considering that his residence is far from his new assignment.

He's been also receiving threats which worries him when he travels alone, she added.

Teoxon said she has no idea when Alob started receiving the threats.

Police are still investigating the incident for the possible motive.
