A RETIRED member of the Philippine Army and four others were arrested in a drug bust at Barangay 2 in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental Thursday afternoon.

Arrested were Anthony Andas, 28, of Barangay 2; Joerey Vidal, 52, of Barangay Camugao, a retired army; Joan Utañez, 33 and Reagan Sotelo, 37, both residents of Barangay 3; and Windaryl Salim, 30, of Barangay 5.

Personnel of Kabankalan City Police Station in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-6 raided Andas’ house around 5:30 p.m.

Police recovered from them eight sachets of suspected “shabu” (methamphetamine hydrochloride) amounting to P15,000, drug paraphernalia, P12,027 in cash, and the P500 marked money.

Vidal sold a shabu to a police agent for P500. He attempted to escape when he sensed the presence of operatives in the area but he was later cornered.

Andas also tried to evade arrest by climbing the roof of his house but he was arrested later. He sustained minor injuries.

Utañez, Sotelo, and Salim were caught holding a “pot session” inside the house during the operation.

All suspects are detained at the Kabankalan City Police Station for the filing of drug charges.
