Senator inaugurates barangay health centers

Carla N. Canet

SENATOR Ana Theresia “Risa” Hontiveros led the inauguration of the P3 million worth of barangay health centers in Barangay Alijis, Bacolod City Friday, March 16.

She said the financial assistance to put up the health center was coursed through the Department of Health (DOH).

"I will continue to support the universal health care which has been my advocacy in the past year, rallying a cry of ‘Healthy Pinoy, Healthy Pinas’ which is, in fact, the objective of DOH on primary health care," she said.

Barangay Captain Vemver Ray Buenafe said the new health center was funded by Hontiveros through the DOH and the renovated health center was through Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia when he was still a congressman, but it was only implemented recently.

Next week, the barangay health workers will start occupying the health centers. “They are just waiting for the arrival of the generating set so that in case of power interruption, they can still operate with its aid,” Buenafe said.

The facility will have a schedule for a doctor and a resident nurse, midwife, and barangay health workers.

Every Friday, they will hold a dental clinic, prenatal for mothers and regular check-up for children.

The lying-in clinic will also be housed in the new health center but they will still seek for additional funds from the senator for the equipment and apparatus.
