THE Bacolod City Council approved a resolution calling for the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), and all other law enforcement agencies in the city to conduct an investigation for an early resolution of the crime committed in the ambush-slaying of Jail Officer 1 Jayvee Jason Vargas and the wounding of several persons at Barangay Cabug on November 8.

The resolution, authored by Councilor Wilson Gamboa Jr., was approved during the regular session of the City Council on Wednesday.

Gamboa said on November 8, an ambush was staged by unknown persons who killed Vargas and wounding other persons with him in the pick-up truck.

“The City Council has been calling these appropriate law enforcement agencies to resolve at the earliest possible time, the high crimes committed within the territorial jurisdiction of the City of Bacolod,” he said.

He said these crimes include the slaying of businessman Alex Yao, punong barangay Nelson Ligaya, Police Officer Oscar Exaltado, and lawyer Rafael Atutubo, and attempted murder of then Councilor Ricardo Tan.

Gamboa noted in previous months, the city council also approved resolutions for the condemnation of said incidents.

“These ruthless and senseless acts has horrified and created fear, anxiety and apprehensions among the people of Bacolod,” Gamboa said.

BCPO earlier said that they are eyeing four angles in the killing of Vargas in Purok Katipunan, Barangay Cabug.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Ariel Pico, spokesperson of BCPO, earlier said that they are looking into involvement on illegal drugs, business, personal grudges or work-related issues as possible motives in the killing of Vargas.

The victim, 28, of NEDF Village, Barangay Handumanan, Bacolod City, was killed, while his father, retired Senior Jail Officer 2 Joeby, 59; Philip Jurgen Yoro, 27; and Femmy Tano, 23, sustained minor injuries.

Vargas’ cousin Gian Yoro, 25, of Purok San Roque, Barangay Handumanan, also sustained gunshot wounds. (MAP)
