Sum-ag SK chairman-elect joins 26th Youth Congress

NEWLY-ELECTED Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairman of Barangay Sum-ag Jason Villarosa participated in the four-day Drug Abuse and Prevention Summit, as part of the 26th Youth Congress held in Kalibo, Aklan which kicked off Monday.

He was the lone participant in the said congress from Bacolod City.

He was elected by the youth of Sum-ag on May 14 and was personally invited by Undersecretary Earl Saavedra of the Office of the President to attend the Congress.

“I will try to make Sum-ag the showcase of an active youth campaign in fighting against the illegal use of prohibited drugs,” Villarosa told Saavedra.

In turn, Saavedra told the youth leader to initiate forums and symposiums, not only in his barangay but also in the city of Bacolod.

In the same forum, the head of the Duterte Youth and chairman of the National Youth Commission Ronald Gian Cardema also told Villarosa to “lead the youth of Bacolod “by providing leadership but also on the fight against drugs.

During the campaign, Villarosa told his peers in Sum-ag that should he be elected as SK chair, he will activate the Youth Center of Sum-ag to be funded out of his monthly allowance from the barangay.

Aside from providing skills training and job matching for the youth, the Youth Center will likewise act as the focal point for the anti-drugs campaign of Sum-ag.

Interior Secretary Catalino Cuy likewise congratulated and challenged Villarosa to help the youth of Bacolod, Sum-ag in particular, to stay away from drugs and engage their time in productive endeavors.
