Summer heat still on, surface trough cause rains

SEPHARD Caelian, head of the Provincial Disaster Management Program Division, confirmed Wednesday, April 10, that the summer heat is still on.

Caelian made the statement after two days of rain was experienced in the province.

Caelian explained that the rains in the past two days were due to the surface trough that resulted to thunderstorms and scattered rain showers felt all over the province.

Governor Alfredo Maranon said that cloud seeding operation may no longer be needed because of rains. Heavy rains were experienced especially in central and northern part of Negros as well as in the southern part in the last two days.

"It's a good sign because it is a relief to the farmers who have been praying for rains because of too much heat brought about by the El Niño phenomenon. The fields are already dried up," he said.

Some localities are already planning to declare a state of calamity because of the heat that already affected the agriculture sector.

But Caelian said that it was just passing rains and thunderstorms and that the summer heat will resume.

"The province is among the areas that experience weak El Niño which means below normal rainfall is expected", Caelian said.

The El Niño phenomenon is expected to end in May.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration already declared that summer has already started, Caelian added.
