ABOUT 80 percent of the market vendors in Burgos Public Market in Bacolod City voluntarily removed their stalls located outside the public market Wednesday morning, August 7.

Executive Assistant Ernie Pineda, cluster head on markets, said that more than 100 vendors already voluntarily removed their stalls.

He said Burgos Public Market has a total of 197 vendors occupying the roads with most of them from Daniel Ramos and Burgos Street.

Pineda added that the vendors were assisted by personnel of City Legal Office-Enforcement Unit in removing their stalls and they will be given space and table inside the market.

They are now facilitating the requirements of the affected vendors such as identification card among others, he said.

On Tuesday, a dialogue was held by the city government with the market vendors at the Bacolod Government Center.

Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran earlier said that majority of the market vendors in Burgos Public Market agreed to voluntarily remove their stalls located outside the market.

He said this is in pursuant to Memorandum Circular No. 2019-121 dated July 29, 2019 of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) directing the local government officials, from the mayors down to barangay captains, to implement the clearing of roads.

On August 8, the city will also hold a dialogue with vendors at Central Public Market and the clearing operation will start on August 9 and 10 from the areas of Ballesteros Street. The vendors will be transferred inside the Central Market.

On August 11, a meeting is set with the vendors at Libertad Public Market and the demolition will start on August 12 to 14 from the areas of Amelia-Mercedes Streets. The vendors will be transferred inside the Annex Building.

On August 14, a meeting is set with the sidewalk vendors, but there’s no final schedule yet for the demolition. (MAP)
