A VILLAGE councilman died from what is believed to be a motorcycle-related accident at Barangay Bunga in Don Salvador Benedicto town, Negros Occidental on Saturday, October 22.

Town police chief, Lt. Everly Canto identified the fatality as Joelibert Toreno, 28, of Purok Caimito in Brgy Bunga.

Canto said the body of Toreno lying on the ground beside his motorcycle was found at about 6:30 a.m.

Investigation showed that Toreno was on his motorcycle and could have been heading east of the highway when he lost control over his motorcycle and overshot on a curvature area and hit the rocks along the barangay’s Purok Istiwitis which caused his immediate death.

His family claimed that he was last seen alive having a drink with his friends in the barangay at about 10 p.m. on Friday, Canto said.

She said that in fact, Toreno brought home one of his companions after they had a drink.

However, it is not yet certain whether Toreno’s family will subject his remains to autopsy, especially that he has a head injury.
