BAGO City-hailed Roger Ladon captured his second silver medal this year after settling for runner-up in the recently-held 2nd Kapolri Cup Boxing International Open in Indonesia.

Ladon, a Rio de Janeiro Olympian, bowed to Ryuseu Baba of Japan in a close 3-2 scorecard in the men’s flyweight class.

En route to the finals, Ladon dropped Budi Gunawan in the quarterfinals before beating Mohamed Hanurdeen Bin Hamid in the semis.

It was recalled that Ladon also clinched the silver medal in the 2018 President’s International Boxing Cup in Astana, Kazakhstan following a decision loss to hometown boxer Anvar Muzaparov.

Also winning gold medals for the Philippines are veteran boxers Josie Gabuco and Nesthy Petecio, and newcomer Ramel Macado Jr.

Ladon is among the boxing heroes from Bago City following the footsteps of 1992 Barcelona Olympics bronze medalist Roel Velasco and his younger brother, Mansueto “Onyok” Velasco who won the silver medal in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.
