Pre-area meet tournament unfolds

AIMED to provide young footballers a test to their readiness for upcoming Department of Education (DepEd) Area Athletic Association Meets on November, football and futsal tournaments kicked off in Sagay City over the weekend.

The Goodwill Games Boys 11-A-Side is being held at Sagay National High School football field while the Futsal Girls is at the Sagay National High School covered court.

Teams seeing action in the boys’ event are Sagay FC Elementary, Grade 7A, Grade 7B, Grade 7 Selection, Pinas Cup, Seniors, Bantayan FC, Sagay HS Selection, Victorias FC, Escalante FC, and Escalante Elementary.

For futsal girls are Sagay FC A and B, Bata Tigers FC A and B, Ronis United FC, Silay FC A and B, Escalante FC, Victorias FC, and Phanters FC.

Aside from determining the players’ preparedness for the coming DepEd competitions, this event is part of Sagay City’s sports development program to further strengthen football in the city and nearby localities.

Benson Fernandez, City Sports administrator, said that the staging of this event is among the sports agenda of Mayor Alfredo Marañon III to promote Sagay City’s sports tourism which will also help local economy through generated revenues. (HGD)
