SJFC, Pontevedra-B rule futsal tourney

AFTER months of tough matches inside the hard court, St. John’s FC and Pontevedra-B pulled off with sweet victories over the weekend to claim the titles in the Born 2009 Boys and Born 2004 Girls of the recently-concluded Dynamic Futsal League 2019 (3rd Conference) played at the Panaad covered court.

For Born 2009 Boys, eventual “most valuable player” Lance Panes of SJFC nailed the opening goal in 13th minute for a 1-nil lead but, “best midfielder” awardee Niel Gella of Pontevedra equalized the scoreboard in the 17th minute for a 1-all deadlock at the half.

Both teams fought hard in the 2nd half with several goal chances on both ends but, defense was played well. It was until Panes made a huge play on the left flank beating his defenders and nailed the winning goal in the 38th minute.

Meanwhile, University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos (UNO-R) finished 3rd place after defeating San Enrique, 8-3.

Awarded as “best striker” is UNOR”s Cris Edward Tolimao with 13 goals as SJFC’s James Uy and Rui Niño Carpena were named as “best defender” and “best goalkeeper”, respectively.

For the Born 2004 Girls, Bata Tigers was ahead 3-2 at the half as “best striker” Chenny Mae Dañoso extended the lead to 4-2 at the start of the second half.

However, eventual MVP Hannah Mae Montalban scored her hat-trick in the 32nd minute as “best midfielder” Aliexa Mae Casi fired another in the 34th minute to equalize the scoreboard at 4-all.

With both teams even at the end of the regulation, a 10 minutes extension was called. With Pontevedra setting up a good play, Casi found herself open for the winning goal in the 43rd minute to lift Pontevedra to victory.

UNO-R, meanwhile, took home their second third place trophy with a 3-1 triumph over Panthers.

Pontevedra’s Joyce Gemberva was named “best defender” while Shiela Lumawag of Bata Tigers got the “best goalkeeper” award.

This annual event is bankrolled by Negros Occidental Football Association headed by its president Ricky Yanson Jr.
