WESTERN Visayas’ Ann Catherine Quitoy, a Grade 10 stalwart of Romanito Maravilla Sr. National High School, broke on Monday, April 16, the Palarong Pambansa record in secondary girls javelin throw with 45.72m, erasing last year’s record of 42.85m set by Sylvian Faith Abunda of Northern Mindanao.

Abunda, on the other hand, settled for the silver medal this year with 41.28m as Soccsksargen thrower Marizel Buer finished bronze with 39.44m.

This is the first time that Quitoy, who is a native of Valencia, Negros Oriental, suited up for the Blue Barons’ after representing then Negros Island Region last year where she finished silver.

Meanwhile, 15-year-old and San Carlos City pride Rhena Gimarangan won two gold medals in the Paralympic shot put and 100m dash events, and bronze in the long jump.

In softball, the Blue Barons blanked Eastern Visayas, 13-0, in the elementary division while the secondary level demolished Mimaropa, 18-0.

The secondary boys’ baseball also defeated Davao Region, 5-0. (HGD)
