MANILA -- Malacanang was overwhelmed with the assistance the country is getting following the onslaught of super typhoon Juan that left 11 dead and billion pesos of damage.

United States (US) Ambassador to the Philippines Harry Thomas has confirmed that their government will be giving US$100,000 disaster relief assistance for those affected by the typhoon particularly in Northern Luzon areas.

Deputy Presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte in a press briefing Wednesday acknowledged the US aid, noting that it will be a great help in rehabilitating provinces badly hit by Juan.

Valte however clarified that the aid was not sought by the Philippine government from the US as earlier stated in television reports.

She said it was voluntarily provided by the US government.

“Any aid and any thoughts in condolences will certainly be welcomed,” the Palace spokesperson said.

She meanwhile assured that the government has enough fund to support the needs of the victims of Typhoon Juan. (Jill Beltran/Sunnex)
