Zambo town councilor killed in gun attack

ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Motorcycle-riding gunmen have killed a town official and injured his wife in a gun attack in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, the police reported Monday.

Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula (PRO-9) Information Officer-in-Charge Inspector Dahlan Samuddin said the incident took place around 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the village of Tiayon, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Samuddin identified the slain town official as Councilor Sarabon Bawa, 52, of Tungawan, Zamboanga Sibugay. Bawa’s businesswoman-wife, Aida, was injured.

Samuddin said the Bawa couple was aboard a truck traveling to Ipil from Tungawan when the motorcycle-riding suspects overtook and repeatedly shot the victims.

The couple is into fishing business.

An investigation is underway to identify the suspects and the motive of the killing. (Bong Garcia)
