400,000 Baguio, Benguet voters troop to polls

CLOSE to 400,000 voters in Baguio City and Benguet province will troop to polling centers Monday, May 13.

Some 227,033 will cast their vote in Benguet and 164,125 in Baguio City, according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

Comelec added Cordillera region has reached the one million voters mark.

On Saturday, May 11, Benguet Comelec Provincial Election supervisor lawyer Nicasio Jacob conveyed simple message for voters to troop to precincts early to verify their names.

There are 390 polling precincts in Baguio City and Benguet, he added.

Benguet Provincial Police Office director Police Colonel Lyndon Mencio said 100 percent of the election paraphernalia and ballots were already delivered.

A 48-hour liquor ban will be implemented from May 12 to May 13 to prevent violent incidents or crime that may be committed by people under the influence of alcohol.

Jacob added candidates will also be directed to remove all election paraphernalia on May 14.

A total of 29 bets in Benguet is running for mayor in the 13 municipalities, 32 for vice mayor, and 284 councilors.

Three candidates are eyeing for the province’s lone Congressional seat, three for governor, and two for vice governor.

Unopposed candidates are Kibungan Mayor Manny Fermin and Vice Mayor Eslay Mayo and Buguias Mayor Ruben Tinda-an.
