5 illegal gamblers nabbed in Baguio

THE intensified campaign of Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) against illegal gambling resulted in the arrest of five in separate operations in the city.

Operatives of BCPO Police Station 9 arrested the gamblers in Purok 14, Irisan in the afternoon of September 15 after a concerned citizen reported to the police of an ongoing illegal gambling in the area.

Apprehended were Michael Eñola Relos, 33, driver and tenant of Purok 14, Cypress Irisan; Rendentor Acocos Julian, 33, construction worker, both tenants of Cypress Irisan; Melchor Lamarca Gacuscus, 27, driver, and Marlon Mabalot Estacio, 24, helper, and both tenants of Purok 16, Irisan.

They were caught in the act of playing pusoy and confiscated from them a set of playing cards and P780 bet money.

Arrested individuals and confiscated pieces of evidence are now under the custody of the concerned operating units for proper disposition while the suspects are now facing charges for violation of PD 1602 or the Anti-Gambling Act before the court.

Meanwhile, by virtue of a warrant of arrest, a female suspect identified as ‘Maria’ and a resident of Pugo, La Union was arrested by the joint personnel of Police Station 2, and Tubao Municipal Police Station at Purok 14 Cypress, Irisan in the afternoon of September 13.

Judge Bona Aruta of the Municipal Circuit Trial Court of Tubao-Pugo recommended a bailbond of P24,000.
