AGGRESSIVE eradication of marijuana plantation sites across the region will be one of the Police Regional Office–Cordillera’s (PRO-COR) plans for this year following successful operations the past two weeks.

Brigadier General R’win Pagkalinawan, PRO-COR director, said these aggressive measure is the contribution of the regional police in the country’s fight against illegal drugs.

“I want to be consistent. I do not like the practice of operating this year and stop eradication activities after harvesting these marijuana plants the following year. Our policy now is once we identify and operate an area, we should remove these plants to prevent it from growing again,” Pagkalinawan said.

Since assuming as regional director, the strengthened marijuana eradication campaign yielded some P4.5 million worth of illegal plants, stalks and seedlings.

“If this our thrust than let us finish this, until that is not legalized, we should continue and align. It is very logical that since we are the majority of the source of marijuana that means the only way that we can show that we are working here is to get rid of all these marijuana,” Pagkalinawan added.

The police general meanwhile stressed the need for appropriate agencies of government to do the necessary recommendations after a mayor proposed the use of chemicals to purposely stop the regrowth of marijuana plants.

“When it comes to the use of chemicals on marijuana plantation sites we will have to consult with the DENR because they are the appropriate agency of government to do this. But as of now, we will intensify our marijuana eradication campaign so as to also prevent even communist terrorist groups from benefiting from this,” Pagkalinawan added.
