OFFICERS of the Baguio City Jail (BCJ) have confiscated various contrabands following the continuous implementation of surprise inspection in jail cells.

BCJ Warden Chief Inspector Crispin Dornagon said this surprise inspection is part of the city’s Oplan Greyhound which seeks to rid the jail cells of any and all illegal contrabands and weapons kept by persons derived of liberty (PDL).

“We have confiscated a total of 20 contrabands which we consider as not dangerous but are still contrabands. Despite not considered as weapons, they are still not allowed within the city jail,” Dornagon said.

Most of the confiscated contraband’s consisted of shavers and had to be placed in the custody of jail officials. The city jail presently houses more or less 400 jail inmates which is more than 400 percent above its ideal capacity of 100 while the female dorm has around 101 or about 100 percent more than its ideal capacity of 50.

Dornagon assured a stringent inspection of belongings owned by inmate visitors to assure none entry of weapons and other contrabands inside the city jail.

“Our daily surprise inspection is being done to make sure no contrabands May find its way inside the jail cells of our inmates,” Dornagon added. (Jonathan Llanes)
