A PUBLIC consultation and dialogue between the council committee on employment and backyard hog raisers in the Baguio City is set on November 15, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the city multi-purpose hall.

The forum will be an open avenue for the council’s committee on employment, livelihood, cooperatives and persons with disabilities (PWDs) to listen to concerns and at the same time, inform hog raisers of existing and alternative livelihood programs.

Hog raising, as to existing national housing and land use regulations is totally prohibited in highly urbanized areas. This was the subject of earlier meetings and dialogues between hog raisers and concerned government agencies.

Results of the forum would aid the council committee in adopting future legislative measures, the letter from Secretary to the City Council lawyer Brenner Bengwayan states.

The concern was earlier tackled during the media Ugnayan with Mayor Mauricio Domogan saying it has been politicized. He however mentioned the laxity in the implementation of the urban housing provisions.

Presently, hog raisers are given time to wind up their operations, and provide a separate septic tank for animals wastes, the mayor said. Government agencies should also monitor incompliant homes and establishments directing liquid and solid wastes to water ways.

The city has always implemented programs for maintaining environmental sanitation, including sewage treatment facilities, one at Sanitary Camp. Other waste treatment facilities are being planned for implementation. (PR)
