THE long weekend brought monstrous traffic in different areas of Baguio City, with tourists taking advantage of the long break.

Baguio City Traffic Management Bureau head Police Chief Inspector Oliver Panabang said the traffic in the city forced the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) to use almost all of its available personnel to help manage it.

“We have maximized the deployment of our police personnel since Thursday night, November 29, and what we observed was the large volume vehicles coming into the city,” Panabang said.

Personnel coming from BCPO’s action force like the City Mobile Force, among others, have been deployed to assist in managing traffic in the city.

“Our city director, Senior Superintendent Eliseo Tanding, went to Marcos Highway to personally oversee the management of traffic since most of the motorists plying Marcos Highway comes from the lowlands and the only area they know as a point of entry to the city is via Marcos Highway,” Panabang said.

BCPO also coordinated with the police force of Tubao and Pugo to help divert the volume of traffic by letting private vehicles pass through the newly-opened Nangalisan section of Tuba, Benguet passing through Tubao in La Union.

“We have utilized almost all available personnel including our reaction force to help in managing traffic. We have even called on the Pugo and Tuba Municipal Police to help in diverting traffic at Marcos Highway by passing through the Nangalisan section in Tuba going up to Baguio City to ease the volume passing through Marcos Highway,” Panabang added.
