MAYOR-elect Benjamin Magalong is studying the possibility of a building moratorium for Baguio City.

Magalong said a meeting with a multi-sectoral group is needed before any decision for a ban on construction is to ensue but said the possibility is something to be considered.

The incoming mayor said a rehabilitation of the city will be done once he assumes office starting with legislation for construction of buildings as well as allocation for parking and even provisions for water reservoirs.

Magalong added the allocation for parking spaces for buildings may have to be upped to 60 or 70 slots while hotels may be asked to build their own reservoirs to sustain their needs.

The retired police general said talks with a private environmental engineers is ongoing to be able to help the city, adding there is a wide group of experts who have pledged support for the betterment of the city and will work hand in hand with the local government.

The call for a building ban grew louder in the wake of the 49 felled trees by Moldex Realty Inc., which earned the ire of local officials and some residents where glitches in procedure were seen by the legislative.
