CITING the Summer Capital’s inclusion in Unesco’s Creative Cities Network in the crafts and folk arts category, a first for the country, members of the Baguio City Council adopted on first reading a proposed Baguio’s Got Talent cash incentive awards ordinance.

Authored by Councilor Michael Lawana, the proposed measure states that Baguio city is gifted with various talents from all ages showcased in numerous television programs and events and that these talented individuals give prestige to the city and should get cash incentives from the local government.

It defines Baguio-based talent as an individual who, or as a member of a group, is allowed to participate in any television show, reality competition or program or competitions organized and moderated by government agencies, or private organizations and associations showcasing talent in music, singing, dancing, acting and other skills, in representation of the city by reason of enrolment in a school in the city or by being a Baguio resident.

If approved, the ordinance entitles the talents cash incentives ranging from P2,000 to P10,000 depending on their rankings and whether the show, competition or program is international or national in scope or level.

The cash incentive shall be given to the winner upon presentation of the necessary documents and proof.

The proposed measure states that funds for its implementation shall be allocated annually as part of the budget of the city social welfare and development office. (PR)
