IF PROMISES are not kept, permit for additional floors for the Marcons Construction Incorporated building will not be granted.

Councilor Edgar Avila, committee head on infrastructure, said “unless they keep their word to the residents, we may not be inclined to grant their request for additional floors.”

The alderman, in a response to complaints of residents of Salud Mitra Barangay, said talks with Marcons Construction Incorporated mandated the company to repair and heed complaints of residents, to which has no action.

“We are seriously studying and considering the stand of the residents especially because they (builder) have not fulfilled their written commitment before the SP (city council) to repair roads, repairs of damaged houses, water sewage lines etc.,” Avila said.

Residents in a letter sent to the City Hall stated strong opposition to the ongoing project in its request to city officials to approve an additional four floors on top of the previously approved 12–floor building, concerns on concerns on water, sewage, traffic, solid waste disposal and the effect of the building to the nearby creek were raised and opposed.

Marcons currently holds a permit for the construction of an 11-story structure (6-story building and 5-story parking) which has irked residents of the surrounding Upper General Luna – Leonard Wood - Salud Mitra areas because of noise, ground shaking, road damage and cracks to their properties.

Months ago, both City Buildings and Architecture Office (CBAO) head Nazita Banez and City Planning and Development Officer Evelyn Cayat thumbed down plans by Mariano Garcia of Marcons to expand present construction to a 16-story structure, saying it is against the city environment code as well as the new zoning ordinance.

“Will be having another one by January because we gave them 30 days to submit documentary requirements like time and motion study on traffic, environment etc.,” Avila said.

Residents of Salud Mitra barangay is asking city officials to intervene in the construction project.
