Cops seize stolen motorcycles

AUTHORITIES have recovered 14 stolen motorcycles in Baguio and Benguet ready to be dismantled and be sold among farmers.

Two dismantled and 12 whole motorcycles were recovered after police acted on a tip from concern citizens of Tawang in La Trinidad, Benguet on Saturday, July 20.

Series of follow up investigation by the La Trinidad Municipal Police Station (LTMPS), personnel of Baguio City Police Station 7 and 10 with Highway Patrol Group-Cordillera led to the recovery of more motorycles.

Chief Inspector Benson Macli-ing of the LTMPS said a detached engine number and detached engine were also recovered while six suspects were arrested during the operation.

Arrested were Josete Carantes, 22 years old, of Lubas, La Trinidad; Jerson Marian Remegio,20, of San Pascual, Tuba; Jay Juan Rivera,31, from Irisan, Baguio City; Merlon Inso Thomas, 31, and Raymond Sudket Wayyas, 32; both residents of Km. 31 Topdac , Atok.

Macli-ing added the suspects were identified as new carnapping group who intend to dismantle and sell the motorcycles to farmers for their tramline farming.

"The suspects take advantage of the bad weather," he added.

Macli-ing meanwhile warned owners to secure their vehicles particularly along the whole stretch of Km 3 and Km 4.

All suspects were filed in violation of the anti-carnapping act and turned over to the Highway Patrol Group-Cordillera on Monday.

Macli-ing meanwhile said carnapping incidents in the valley has increased compared to only three cases last year.
